The philanthropic sector is concerned about the world we live in. Within the sector, the focus on conservation and the environment has undergone dynamic growth. According to StiftungSchweiz, twelve percent of new foundations set up in 2019 had a charitable purpose relating to protecting the environment. This is double the level of existing foundations focusing on this topic. In this edition, we aim to highlight the approaches that foundations are taking to environmental protection, how they are set up and how they achieve their goals. The number of relatively new foundations proves that the issue is gaining in importance, while older organisations demonstrate that the influence of humans on nature was already causing concern decades ago. While the diversity of the foundation world is growing, our lifestyle is endangering the diversity of nature. It should be self-evident that we need to step up and take responsibility for the environment for our own survival.
