The basic setting for this narrative lies in the fragmentation and heterogeneity of the non-profit sector. These pose obstacles to the collective ability to achieve goals efficiently. Ignorance of others’ activities is a missed opportunity to achieve significant impact. Redundancy and repetition of mistakes are the consequences.
Annual theme of “cooperation”
Cooperation can help. It appears in various forms. Using databases, platforms and existing networking opportunities, as well as closer collaboration in associations are ways of promoting effective non-profit activity. “Cooperation” in the non-profit sector in all its forms will therefore be a major focus for proFonds this year.
However, a sector is only as successful as its framework conditions allow. Current regulatory challenges, such as the planned transparency register, illustrate this: they would require the registration of board members as economically entitled persons in relation to the foundation’s assets. Cooperation within associations also plays a key role here. It enables the creation of a strong voice for positive development of the framework conditions and raises public awareness. Associations are early warning systems, agenda setters and think tanks. They set standards and thus contribute to the transparency, credibility and quality of the sector. They offer their members a platform and the opportunity to network with each other. This demonstrates that genuine cooperation strengthens the sector in the long term.
