The Spheriq Barometer replaces the Foundation Barometer and builds on the organisation profiles on spheriq.ch. This makes surveys shorter, answers more precise and trends more comparable. For non-profits and funding organisations, this means less effort, more insight – better decision-making.
Short questions, strong statements
The Spheriq Barometer asks what drives and motivates organisations:
- biggest current challenges,
- degree and intensity of collaboration,
- opportunities and risks with a view to the coming year.
This creates a compact picture of the situation and makes trends visible. The questions take a maximum of ten minutes to answer.
What can be inferred from the barometer?
It provides orientation and enables action by showing where to focus. If funders report that “co-funding and deal flow are weaker,” this means that collaborations need to be strengthened and scouting needs to be better supported. If non-profits report that “there is a great need for funding but less available funding,” this means that the focus needs to be on sustainable fundraising. If the report is “no successors in the foundation board,” this means that governance and modern working methods need to be strengthened, competence profiles need to be sharpened and a pool of candidates needs to be built up.

The relaunched Spheriq panel is made possible by the long-standing partnership with the Zurich Cantonal Bank, which has been supporting Hansjörg Schmidt as Head of the Foundations Division since the very beginning. “Together, we are creating the basis for a sector-wide assessment with the Barometer, which is relevant for both grant-making foundations and operational organisations. The Spheriq Barometer measures the pulse of the sector.”
Join in now – that means: create a login, register/claim an organisation, fill in the statistics section. Once these basics are recorded, users will receive a link to fill in the Spheriq Barometer. They will also benefit from the benchmarking, which shows where their organisation stands in comparison to others. By participating, you will therefore strengthen your own governance capabilities and at the same time the learning ecosystem of philanthropy.
